ARG - Elder Gillett 6.16.14

Things are going pretty good! At the beginning of this week I was pretty homesick but I am doing a ton better now! Yeah we are going to keep doing as much as we can but it is only going to get more hard as the world cup goes on! We did hear people screaming when they scored the second goal but it wasn´t everyone going crazy! I am sure it will be worse when it gets further into the World Cup! another thing is if there is a chance I want skittles :) i miss them and they are expensive here in argentina for a tiny bag! hahaha 

Our president hasn´t said anything about the rules so far so we have no idea! It really is impossible to not watch the games here! We are still able to go and visit members and investigators and everyone but they almost always have the game on! We always at least try to share a good short message though so that we at least let them know still about the gospel and everything but yeah we have ended up seeing a lot of the games! Sunday nights we have to return to the pension by 8pmthough so we only got to see the first half of the argentina game so we saw the own goal and how bad argentina was sucking. We even have a little tournament going on between us as elders in the pension like march madness but for the world cup! 

Yeah I withdrew the money from the bank account because my ipod was just completly toast! Stupid walmart brand! Luckily most of my music was on the little card so I still have a lot of it but not all of it! I emailed her this week so she said she was doing pretty good to me! (Sister Paige Eastwood) I will make sure to respond to her and give her some help if she needs some! I am so pumped for Brad! I know if I was in his shoes I wouldn´t have been able to do it! But now he is headed off! 

Thats really cool to hear about the missionaries coming over for dinner! I forgot to mention this last week but when I saw that you were having dinner with the missionaries and everything that I was going to tell you 2 weeks ago you need to start having them over for dinner and stuff! It is seriously the most amazing thing to have these super amazing families who are always so willing to accept you into their house and give you food and talk with you and everything! SO I was super excited to hear that the Lord was working out my words for you to give them dinner with out me having to say anything! Just love that missionary thats struggling! There has been times that I have been struggling but it is crazy that as soon as I go to anywhere to eat with members, teach investigators, and just kinda forget about myself is when I have the most fun and forget about how hard of a time I was having or anything! hahaha Colton chose right! Argentina! Hahah (Colton, a cousin wore his Argentina Messi jersey to our house to watch the game with us yesterday)  but yeah that sounds fun for them to be working together in J-Dawgs! (a friend of Tanner's will be working with Colton)
 

So yeah as for me with week we really didn´t have any success with investigators until this morning! It was super cool to hear this! But thats for in a second! So we didn´t have any success with investigators this week because they were all busy and not home and stuff and we really can only be in one of 4 areas during each day in the field because the area is pretty big! But yeah we visited a lot of menos activo members and it turned out really good! We got a lot of them there for class and to take the sacrament and stuff but it was super funny because the second we were done with the sacrament there was like 20 people that got up and left church! hahahah not good but it was just funny because of how intense everyone was for getting ready for the game sunday night that argentina was playing! hahaha but yeah

saturday we went and visited Ruben with our ward mission Leader Hermano Galvan! And he used to have smoking and drinking problems like Ruben does! So it was super cool to have him there testifying of the power of overcoming these with the help of the gospel! Ruben is a stud to but sometimes has a really hard time understanding the principals of the gospel so we have to help him a couple times to understand it because he barely has a concept of God! Super funny though because one time we were talking to him about Noah and the Ark and at first he said Yeah I don´t know that story... But we talked more and more about it and so he said, "OHHHHH yeah i know that story! I watched a movie about it one time! There was a guy building a boat or something and he was growing his beard really long and stuff!" Steve Almighty the movie is what he was talking about.... hahahhaha super funny! but yeah this morning we got a call from him after he didn´t come to church yesterday and he said yeah sorry i didn´t come to church yesterday I was stuck in Quilmes (another city close to Berazetegui) and he said that he started talking and sharing the gospel with his girlfriend and she was really interested in the church too! FUAAAAAAAAAAAAA (Fua is like wow, or dangit, or anything in english like that haha) It was super cool to hear! And he also told us that during the Argentina game last night he didn´t drink or smoke anything! And normally in the mornings when he wakes up he smokes but he didn´t this morning so he called us to tell us this! Super awesome!

Love you all! Its crazy how specifically and specially the Lord works to help us in his work with experiences like this! I have a really strong testimony of this! Love you all! love you tons!

Elder Weelson 6/16

Before I start.... HAPPY FATHERS DAY YESTERDAY DAD!!!:) I love you so much. 

Greetings from the greatest city in all of Spain... Fuenla!  Things are going so great out here!  Elder Bohne and I are lovin life, and workin so hard together.  Its amazing... after 5 weeks with him, I am still learning so much from him.  Every single day he teaches me something new, and helps me become a better servant of our Lord.  We are so happy together, and TONS happened this week!  I'll try to get ya'll updated in a quick, specific good manner.  hahaha.

So first off we had our Leadership Council this week in the Mission Home. It was INCREDIBLE! I liked it this time more than the last time.  This time was just incredible and so spiritual.  Probably because I wasnt freaking out, being super nervous the whole time.  It was a blast though.  I got to see Elder Smith!!!! My long lost companion.  It was so great to see him.  He had changed so much, but at the same time was the same exact funny Elder Smith.  Love that guy so much. I also so many other missionary friends that I havnt seen since the beginning of the mission or the MTC.  It was great to see them.  The 2 office Elders are now Elders from my group.  All the missionaries in my group are just incerdible.  They are all so spiritual and just on a whole other level.  It was great to see them.  We ate the famous Hermana Jackson food.  We had chicken enchaladas... SO GOOD! It was good to eat some good home cookin food. haha!  So the very next day Elder Bohne and I gave the Zone Training to our zone of what we had learned.

We have been working so hard here in fuenlabrada.  Were really working with the members.  More than anything, just loving them.  Helping them feel the Love of the Lord in their lives.  Its kinda tough.... Fast and Testimony meetings members just get up and call other members out...... The Gospel Principles teacher kinda just throws out false doctrine..... and in Presithood people just try to show how much knowledge they have, and that they are the most faithful preisthood holder.... its always interesting on Sunday.  You never know what your going to see.  hahaha.  But I love them.  I spoke this past sunday. They let me know the morning of the Sacrament meeting, so I had about 45 minutes to prepare a 15 minute talk.  I spoke a lot about Gratitude.  I thought it turned out really good.  I really felt the spirit.  Its incredible how easy it is to speak for 15 minutes now.... I remember freaking out before the mission trying to speak for 7 minutes.... hahaha.  I love the Branch here so much.  Everyone has such strong desires to follow Christ.  They are a ton of fun.  Im really really grateful for the chance to be here in Fuenla.  Its the greatest.  

So we have a new investigator named Mariela.  Please pray for her family.  She is incredible.  Shes from Peru, and her whole family is back in Peru.  She has such strong desires to know the truth and to find the truth in her life.  We have had some incredible lessons with her, and she is progressing so well.  She is such a blessing.  I feel really blessed to be able to teach her.  So updates: Saady and Mabel moved to Germany.  Luis.... fell of the map.  Marcos and the Colombians... same goes.  Since the World Cup started we havent heard from him.  Victor... I think were gonna drop him for a bit.  Juan Carlos and Estela are passivly progressing.  Please pray for all those people.  We are trying to exersice so much faith.  They need it.  The work here in Fuenlabrada is going so well.  We hit the streets every single day SO EXCITED!  I love to work.  I just love being tired, and realizing that I can, and need to work even harder if Im realizing that Im tired. If you TRULY WORK, with a focused mind and a heart set on the Lord, You wont be tired until you hit your bed.... then you just pass out. hahahaha. I really have learned that. 

I love my Savior. He knows me.  He understands me.  I know that He will carry me every where I need to go, as long as Im willing to follow.  I know without a doubt that this church is true.  I have really been realizing this past week that our Savior more than anything wants us HAPPY... and I truly am happy.  He has blessed me so much. Im happy to be tired.  Im happy to wake up every morning.  I truly just am so happy.  The Lord is my best friend.  He loves us all so much.  I know this is HIS work, not MY work.

Jarrett Weekly Letter 6.15.2014

Wow it has been raining all week, and to be honest I am not a big fan of dendoing in the rain that is for sure. It really takes your dendo fire away, but our numbers this week weren't too bad. We were still able to get out and work everyday. This week was all finding again because we only have one investigator right now, so we made about 15 appointments, but the problem with the appointments sometimes, is we normally make them when people are busy and so they aren't very strong appointments. But the investigator we have now was a "weak appointment", but she was home when we told her we would come back and now she is our investigator so that is really nice when we see "weak appointments" into good investigators.

So I got a new English class person who loves me. This lady gave me hand made roses and then some snacks and a little letter saying how her week was and how see thinks I am cute. The only probably is this lady is like in her 30s or 40s really nice lady, but like I said before I am a missionary, and I don't even want to talk to her anymore.

Well that is about it love you guys!

ARG - Elder Gillett 6.9.14

No i have only been using the one pair! I figured I will run these down until they are toast and then one day maybe when argentina plays or something and we can´t go teach i will pull them apart and super glue them really well! :) We haven´t heard what is going to happen with argentina and the world cup if we are allowed to go out during argentina games or what! Another crazy thing here is everybody looks like people from home! There was a picture in one of our investigators house of a girl that looks EXACTLY like you from one of the pictures we have down stairs of when you were like 5 or 6 or something like that! I mean EXACTLY like you too! hahaha they said it was their granddaughter or something!

Yeah it is really sad to see the health problems here! And a lot of it is with stuff that if they were in the United States they could have had it fixed when they were born or when it happened but now they are paralyzed in some way because of it and stuff! So it doesn´t surprise me about the girl who couldn´t talk here! (Madi is to give a youth talk in Sacrament this coming Sunday & she chose a GC talk about a young Buenos Aires, Argentina girl who couldn't speak, so she drew her testimony for Sister Wixom of Jesus Christ kneeling in the Garden of Gethsemane)  talks are fun! She will do an awesome job! I gave a talk in spanish like the 2nd or 3rd week I was here though so it actually came out a lot better than I thought! but yeah!

Sorry I don´t have a ton of time and its hard to think of what happened sometimes! Yeah that part of the BOM has been scary for me to think too! I haven´t since she is on the mission (Paige) but i will try and email her! I am pumped for Brad! He will love Peru! I don´t like spicy food that much either but the food some of the peruvian missioanries make us is really really good!

Sooooooo for this week we had a lot of success! Seriously! Not with people we had taught with before like Ruben and Guillermo! We weren´t able to visit those too! But we are hoping to sometime early this week! We found 4 new investigators this week! Which is really good especially since we usually get only 1 or 2 a week!

Primero! There was Jose and Nelli! They are a really old couple that live together in a really poor area of our mission and we walk past their house a lot and almost always Jose is outside sitting in his wheel chair (he had a stroke and the right side of his body is paralyzed but he is starting to get feeling and being able to walk little by little!) But yeah anyways we always go and talk to him and stuff and he is super nice and funny but is super hard to understand because he cant even use all of his tongue to pronounce the words he is trying to say! Then we saw Nelli sitting and looking out her window one time so we went up and talked to her too and told us a little bit about us and she invited us over another time and we taught them both about the plan of salvation! They were super touched you could tell and they offered the prayer to finish the lesson and everything! IT was super awesome! And after they accepted a baptismal date after for the 28th of June so hopefully we can get them prepared in time!

And then also this week we taught a friend of one of the ward members and his nickname is Hueso (which means bone) no idea why he is named that but everyone knows him by that! He is a stud! Likes soccer, motorcycles, and cars. Sounds a little bit like someone you know right ;) hahah me but yeah we talked about all that for awhile and then we taught him about the restoration of the gospel! He doesn´t understand a lot of the words but he really likes what we do have to say so we will see how it goes with him here soon this next week!

Then this next week coming up is transfers already! Elder Santos has been here in this area for 5 months already so odds are is he willing be headed to somewhere else after this week! But we will see! WE are actually getting along a lot better now too so it will be a little tough to leave him because he helped a ton with spanish! But yeah also if he leaves I will have to lead my area already and I am only 6 weeks in! Pretty crazy! hahah anyways!

I love you all so much! Thanks for the emails and everything! It tops the week off every monday when I get on and have 20 to 30 emails from you all!

Family!!!

Hope yall havin a great week.... I honestly dont know my identity with english anymore.... It seems like im starting to say yall a lot more... hahaha.  I dont know whats goin on.  One of those phases:)  But this week was amazing!!! So much happened this week, it was seriously an amazing week, life just keeps getting better and better!  

So this week, I did exchanges with the assistants.  This time I did it with Elder Merriman.  And wow... that guy is incredible.  We had tons of fun together and worked so hard!  I learned soooo much from him.  I cant even put into words what I learned from him.  He is just incredible. As you all know... I always expect a lot out of myself.  Too much a lot of the times.  And Elder Merriman is exactly like that as well he said.  He gave me the advice to never let your expectations of yourself to stress you out.  But to only let it drive you.  He is so incredible.  We had such a great exchange!  So to switch back with our companions Elder Merriman and I went to Atocha... which is really really close to downtown madrid.  so we arrived like almost an hour early.... well Elder Blanchard and Bohne were runnin late as well... so it turned out bein an hour early.  So we decided to go eat some breakfast while we waited for them.  So we walk to down town madrid (this was my first time there since the mtc) and bought some dunkin doughnuts (first time ever eating dunkin doughnuts) in downtown madrid in Plaza Mayor.  It was so awesome! Seriously something I will never forget.  hahaha.  

Man, Elder Bohne and I are just having so much fun together and working so hard!!! We have so many investigators right now with soooo much potential.  The work here in fuenlabrada is going so well, and progressing so much!  We have our big activity coming up that we planned the 21st of June.  It should turn out awesome!  I am really excited to see how it turns out.  

The colombians are doing great.  They are incredible.  Its really hard to teach them all... Because its either they are all together or none of them are together, its weird how that works.  But one of them is named Marcos.  He is super super awesome, and has a baptismal date for the 5th of July.  We are really excited for him, and seems to be progressing super well.  

We also found a family this week.  Saady and Mabel.  Saady is bolivian and Mabel is Spaniard.  Mabel is the girl just in case your wondering. hahaha:)  They are so amazing and also have a baptismal date for the5th of July.  They seem so prepared, and I couldnt be more excited about them.  They have such a beautiful and united family.  They have 3 little children.  They make me so happy, and I feel such a love for them.  Whenever I pray for them, or visit them I just feel an overwhelming love for them.  And mom, I loved what you said about that, Its the love that we feel that God has for them.  And that is SO true.  I love them so much, and it has only been 1 week.  There are so many prepared people here in Fuenlabrada! 

so.... were pullin out all stops to try to help out this branch.......... we sang.  We sang a special musical number in church on sunday. hahahaha.  We sang... uhhhh... La Oracion del Profeta.... A Prophets Prayer...?  is that what its called?  But we sang that, but to the toon of Come thou Fount.  It was super awesome actually.  I thought it turned out super well.  DIdnt think Id get nervous up there.... but I did.  I just got the Wilson beautiful singing voice... thats why.  hahahaha.  Man I am just so happy out  here in paradise!  Sorry this was short... and kinda boring.  We played soccer for like 3 hours today... and I can really only think about food right now.  Im STARVIN.  hahahaha.

Jarrett Weekly Letter 6.8.2014

Yo YO Yo

It was a pretty sick we that is for sure!!

Well to start off the week we had transfers well I found out that I am staying here in Odori and I am staying with my companion again how freakin crazy is that! I am actually way stoked he is a way cool guy I for sure love him a lot! So it is basically one long transfer with us together! It doesn't feel like a transfer passed by, things are just so fun! 

We found a investigator this week it was awesome it felt really good! Her name is Suehiro San and we met with her yesterday she is the nicest lady ever. I am not sure if she has much interests but she is for sure listening and feeling the spirit so she says.  Heavenly Father is for sure working with us. 

This week there was this unreal festival called Yosakoi, I am speechless even talking about it. So look it up first off. Well it was about 4 days long and we actually would take our lunch and dinner time and would go and watch it and it was just so unbelievable. I took a bunch of videos but they are all about 5 minutes long. So it is like colleges and just random groups dancing, either on stage or the street it was freakin legit. Everyone was in sync  but the costumes and music were unbelievable -  lets just say LOOK IT UP!!

Well I love you guys! By the way I only have like 30 minutes to write today because we have a zone activity, with President Evans...

Jarrett Weekly Letter 6.1.2014

Dear Family,

 

I am sorry I don't have much time to write this week but it was a pretty dang good week.

 

So to start of Elder Christofferson of the quorum of the 12 apostles came and visited our mission. We were privileged to hear from him Wednesday morning, and he was absolutely amazing. He asked if we had any questions and he freakin used the spirit for every question as he answered them and he used the scriptures for every answer that was really cool.  Then for the last part he told us that we really need to work with NA and that will help us boost up our numbers. He said in Hokkaido over 70 percent of the members are NA and not coming to church. That really struck a cord with me and how I really haven't been focusing on them at all so I really want to start changing that. So that was a really cool experience.

 

Then next was yesterday. SO it was the last day of the week and our numbers were really bad. We didn't have one lesson to count for the week and really  just wanted to teach a lesson. Well within the first 20 minutes we taught one lesson. Then also another miracle, we housed about 4 apartment complexes. And after the 3rd one nobody in all of the apartments didn't answer their door. Well we get to this next one and me and my companion were both saying how we should be just skip it because it is a waste of our time, because nobody is home. Well we both had the feeling that we needed to do it. Well the LAST apartment door we pinged a guy came out and we taught him a really good lesson that was a really cool experience and he really wants us to come back next week. After that we went streeting at the park. The a last contact of the night we talked to was a 19 year old kid who wants to be a professional photographer and it was so sick to talk to him! He is going to Tokyo to go take some pictures for a couple of weeks and then he is coming back! So that is going to be so dope to teach him he is pretty interested and totally got is phone number and everything! So a couple of miracles for the last day of the week which really felt nice!

Elder Weelson 6-2

Wow, what an incredible week!!!  This email is going to be a little bit shorter.  I'm just gonna let y ou know right now.  hahaha.  I have tons of pictures to send, so Im gonna send a little more time doing that today.  Its kinda a process on this dang computer, and we had a zone activity today for Pday.  We went to this awesome park, had a HUGE picnic, and played capture the flag.  It was so much fun.  The zone is so awesome! 

But this week was seriously the greatest!! I am so happy, and having so much fun, but have never been so focussed in my life!  Elder Bohne and I still havent spoken in english together.  Its awesome.  Im seriously loving it!  I want to take advantage of every single second I have being emersed in the spanish language.  I got a long ways to go though.  Ive reached a point, where I could just settle, and be totally fine.  Say and understand basically everything.  But there is still so much to learn, and so much I need to learn to reach that next level!  So that is going great. 

Man, I just couldnt be more grateful to be here in Fuenlabrada, with Elder Bohne.  He's such a stud.  I'll try to make sure to actually tell you how the week was, instead of just worshipping elder bohne this week!  hahaha, he's just the man.  So we had such an amazing week!!  We have so many investigators that are soooo close.  This week about 15 people had committed to coming to church, and a few others were a little shaky... there are so many prepared people!!... but yeah, 15 for sure didnt make it to church this week, sadly.  The Colombians, Edith, Marcos, Guadalupe, Gentiel, and Elizabeth are doing so amazing.  They are really falling into place in the branch.  We havent really even taught them that much, because they have just been coming to the weekly branch activities and stuff!  hahaha, they are loving it, and such incredible people.  We haven't visited them once, without them giving us some sort of food.  They have so much faith and are doing so great.  Please pray for them!  

I just want to finish by saying how grateful I am to be a servant of the Lord and for prayer.  Prayer is the key to everything.  With a faithful prayer in your heart ALWAYS, and taking time to stop, think, meditate and pray is so so so so powerful.  I know our Father in Heaven listens.  He activiley listens.  And is so anxious to bless us.  I am so happy.  I feel so grateful to be able to give EVERYTHING I have to help just a little bit with this great work.  I love the people here in Spain.  I love you guys so much.  If I have learned anything these past few weeks, its Love.  I seriously feel such a love in my heart.  I am so thankful for my Savior, Jesus Christ.  He always turned outward, and loved.  I feel such a passion in my heart for this work.  I have never felt something this strong in my entire life.  A love so strong for these people.  A desire so strong to serve the Lord.  A faith so strong, that Elder Bohne and I can be insruments in the Lords hands to bring forth His will.  I love you all so much.  Hope you have an amazing week, thanks for the emails and letters! I appreciate them tons!  Life couldnt get better!!!!! I'm so dang happy.

ARG - Elder Gillett 6.2.14

Ehhh it was just a one day thing! (being sick) Seems to happen a lot down here but oh well! I am doing perfectly fine now! But now Elder Santos says he has "bronchitis". ugh...  We found some good deals on jerseys and stuff this week so I bought a few things with the money I got from trading with one of the members! Got some FC Barcelona socks, a banner thing of BOCA juniors, and a jersey of River Plate! The champions of the league in Argentina! I will make sure to send pictures next week! But yeah my ipod thing is already not working... No idea whats going on with it! 
So this week was another slow week! We have a couple new investigators and they are doing good! We visited Ruben and he has stopped smoking a ton but hasn´t completely quit but he is going to try to this week! And we couldn´t get him to say his first prayer with us the other day when we talked to him! So we will see how it goes with him this week! 

We taught a lot of less active because they have changed our mission to a pilot program to only focus on the recent converts, menos activo members, and the investigators! So that has been really cool! Supposedly we have a member of the 70 going on tour of our mission this week and he will be visiting our district! I don´t know for sure but thats what we heard! 

Then with one of our new investigators Rosa who lives in a really nice house! hahah anyways she is catholic but doesn´t go to church and doesn´t read the bible (like everybody in Argentina) haha They all say "Yeah I am Catholic but I never go to church or read the bible" So basically they aren´t :) haha but she told us before we taught that she didn´t have much time but when she let us in we talked for like a little more than an hour! She was really interested and wants us to come back to teach this thursday! So we will see how that goes! 

Then we have another investigator who had a baptismal date with some missionaries before but never ended up getting baptized! He is SUPER knowledgeable about the bible and if the bible doesn´t say it, he won´t do it! HE really likes everything about our church though but because of the fact that nobody sees god in the bible, he doesn´t believe in the restoration! So we try to talk to him about it and explain it and everything so he promised us he will read the book of mormon with real intent and see what he actually thinks about it! And then it sounds like this saturday we are going to have a party of some sort with the ward and play soccer all together and everything so we are hoping for some of the ward members to invite some friends and we can all play soccer and get some new investigators and everything too! But thats all for this week! Love you all! 

This week (Elder Frampton 6-2)

Dear Family and Friends,

 

How Is everyone? Is everything going good at home or on the mission?

 

So this week we went and just visited our lists. I could honestly end my email at that ha ha. its getting a little bit picked up here with the work. The more I hear the ward talk about the last two missionaries it makes me sad that their conduct would be like it was in this area. But people come on missions to change and so they will get there.

 

So one of the days this week we were out trying to meet all these people on our lists and its like 8:15and we had no success all day and were close to home. I had written down one more name and we both were on the edge of going or just calling it but we decided to check it out. We knock on the door and this Egyptian man with no shirt on opens the door and he tells us to come in. So we went in. We sat down as he finished up on his phone call. He then he looked at us and asked us what we are doing. We start to explain he was on one of our lists and ask what he remembers about the last missionaries. he cant remember when they last visited but he asks what makes our religion different. It starts to turn into a small "Bible Bash" until he asks us to read something from our Book. We open up and read a little and he starts asking questions about the Book of Mormon. So like every missionary knows we turn to the introduction to help explain the book. We ask him to read the last two paragraphs and he starts reading but has a hard time with the words. In the last paragragh he stops for a little and we think he is struggling with the words but he looks up and says "I know this book is true, I can feel it even before I finish it. You knew to have me read this? how did you know I would feel this way?" It was soooooooo awesome! We testified of it and e wants us to come back and teach more. It was amazing to see how the spirit touches those who are ready and how the lord expects you to work all the way till your last stride.

 

So It ended up being an awesome week and I am really learning how to love the mission out here. I am greatfull for all of the support and love! It really means a lot. I love you all!

How is everyone!? I hope everything is going good for you all at home.

 

So this week I went to my new area that I am sweeping into. Its hard to sweep. A sweep is when 2 missionaries leave an area and 2 fresh missionaries come in. So we both know like nothing about the area. My companion is great though. he has been through 4 sweeps so he knows what he is doing. he is from California and he is like 6'4'' and like 280 pounds. I forgot a picture this week but he is great. So this week has been a lot of organizing and trying to figure out names. its also been huge on service and the amount we do here. I am getting sunburned we are out side serving all the time. Our WML is super service oriented and so we are always out and about with him ha ha its awesome. So this week was mentally hard ha ha. I heard that 6 months out is another rut for most missionaries. So I have just been thinking alot about my life and my mission and it makes me notice all the things that are going on. So this area we are starting fresh and so it seems to be going so slow ha ha but I know it will pick up. Thanks for all the support that I have been given. its hard to know what to talk about out here because nothing is really progressing or anything. But I want you to know that everything is good I am learning alot and I am praying for you all!

ARG- Elder Gillett 5.26.14

Yesterday was flag day in Argentina too so everyone was cooking asado and other stuff too! We even sang the national anthem of argentina in church yesterday too! hahah

So this week was a realllly really good week but I can´t seem to not be sick since being here in Argentina! I think I am getting used to the water and food still right now!

But yeah this week we went and visited Hermana Paz(peace) haha! She is super nice and is like 30 years old or so! Has a bunch of kids and split up with her husband to be baptized in the church a couple years ago! But she has had some problems with overcoming some addictions with smoking (like everybody in Argentina) but we visited her once a couple weeks ago and she was like I don´t know if I can quit! I really want to but I don´t know how! So now a week or two later we decided to go back and visit her and see how she was doing! She invited us in and she shared her testimony with us and read some scriptures (2nd Nephi 9:41 i think-about god being the gate keeper for heaven and how he is waiting to welcome us in if we can be obedient) And she really liked the scriptures so we offered a priesthood blessing at the end... and I gave my first priesthood blessing in spanish! It was really hard at first but then the words kinda of just came out of me and I don´t remember a ton of waht I said but I do remember a feeling of just being really powerful and loving during this blessing! It was super cool! And after we finished she turned to us and said thank you so much! That was exactly what I needed! We talked to her for a little bit longer and then I heard Elder Santos say "do you have any cigarettes in your house right now?" she said she does and he told her to go get them! There is a scripture in the book of mormon that he referenced that I am not sure where it is but it says you can break the chains of sin with gods help! so he read that and instead of chains he read the cigarettes! So she did it! She ripped them up! and threw them in the trash and said I am done! She came to church yesterday a few days after this and came up to us and said that she has been clean of them since we visited which was like 3 days!

Then on saturday we went on splits with different elders in our district so I was in a companionship with Elder Dahl from Logan! He is a stud! hahah we worked really hard that day and had a lot of success talking to new people and now in their area they have a bunch of new people to talk about the evangelio (gospel) too! But during this time Elder Dahl´s companion went with Elder Santos to teach Ruben and some menos activos in our ward! They went and taught Ruben and during this they had a strong member of the ward go with them and help to teach! They taught about the word of wisdom and that he can stop smoking! And he agreed to it! He gave them the cigarrettes he had with them and told them he would stop smoking and come to church on sunday! He wasn´t able to come to church on sunday though because he got called in for work and really needs to money! But we will go visit him this week and make sure he comes this next week! Maybe he will be ready for baptism soon! haha and during the lesson there was a menos activo member who walked by and noticed the missionarys talking to Ruben and he went and joined in and helped to testify of the church and everything! I guess Ruben even said he KNOWS that Joseph Smith is a true prophet too! Really crazy and awesome week! Now to find out a way to fix the water so we aren´t always getting sick down here and stuff!

I woke up sick this morning... again! I think it was something that I ate but I feel a lot better now! They have a really nice advanced filter that we are able to use in our apartments but I don´t think that is the problem! The problem is at members houses when they might not have a filter for the water or something! Yeah i haven´t ate anything yet but I don´t want to drink the water because that is what is making me sick I think in part! So i am drinking tang mix! Which hopefully it doesn´t come out the same color! haha   The mission is too much fun to not keep pushing on!

We are even going to play some soccer also! haha

Hello Family!

This week was so incredible.  Even better than the last week!  Life could not get better out here in Fuenlabrada with Elder Bohne.  This place is incredible.  Each day I am growing to love this city more and more.  I don't know what it is.... this City doesnt really have any huge cool things... but there is something about this place.... I dont know what it is... but I just love it.  Elder Bohne is the MAN.  That guy is such a stud, and we are enjoying every single second together. 

So this week I am going to start off with some funny things that happened this week. Its weird... I feel like Im laughing the entire day... but I can never remember stories.  But anyways.... Last monday for Pday we went to the Chinese Buffet Wok... and wow did I pound the food.... never have I eaten that much at a buffet in my entire life..... just pounded it.  Well... the very next day I just felt awful when I woke up, and had a bad case of the runs.  But no worries, It all turned out okay, and we didnt lose a single minute of proselyting time.  I dont know how I servived without bathrooms, but I did! And no worries, It was just that 1 day.  I just needed to flush all that chinese food out of my system.  

Okay, now Im serious.  You can never be too serious in life, ya know?:)  Right Kdub?  hahaha.  But this week we had an AMAZING zone conference with President and the Assistants. They spoke a ton about Love.  Love for our Savior, Jesus Christ.  And how our love for Him, should carry us.  Our love for Him should give us the desires to work hard, to be exactly obedient and to do EVERYTHING possible to do the work of the Lord.  It was an incredible conference.  Presidnet talked a lot about how this work isn't about us.  Way too often we focus on ourselves. And its so true.  That really touched my heart, because I realized Im focusing way to much on myself. Everything should be for the investigators and members.  I loved it so much, and Im really excited to just forget myself and get to work.  The conference was amazing, and I couldnt be more excited to work every single day to Love the Lord more and more, and to forget myself more and more.  

This week was also the finals of the Champions League.  Atlético Madrid x Real Madrid.  We didnt see any part of the game... but boy did we hear it.  It was crazy.  There was NO ONE out on the streets.  Everyone was in the bars and just screaming, chanting and going crazy.  Lets just say it took a long time to get to bed that night because of all the city just going crazy.  Real Madrid I guess won in Extra Time, is the word on the street.  It was so crazy, and an awesome experience to be there for for the finals with two clubs from Madrid!  

The Lord truly is hastening His work. Its incredible.  He is just putting people in our path.  2 weeks ago we found a brother and sister from Colombia named Marcos and Edith.  They are like there 40s now.  Well it was really hard to get into contact with them, and we almost forgot about them.  Well one day we just decided to pass by their home.  They  were there but just leaving, so we set up a time and day to meet.  Well at the end, Marcos and Edith ended up coming to play soccer with us, and they brought 3 friends! It was awesome.  So we rolled up to the church saturday morning with 5 colombians.  We gave them a tour of the chapel and they loved it, and had tons of amazing questions.  We are beginning to teach the 5, and they all came to church the next day! Such a miracle.  Please pray for Marcos, Edith, Elizabeth, Guadalupe, and Emilio.  

As well we are teaching a family from Ecuador.  Juan Carlos and Estela. They came to church this past week as well!  They are doing amazing, are very quiet, humble people.  I love them so much, and are both very new as well!  Please pray for them! A nigerian brotha named Kency also came to church and loved it!  Hes such a bro, and really wants to get baptized.  We just gotta make sure he understands, and knows how serious this covenant is.  

Also we found a man named Luis this week.  Truly a miracle.  He is from the Dominican Republic, and super awesome!  He came to church this week... well kinda.  He got there late, got to the door of the church, and didnt see anyone.  So he felt a little embarassed and left.  But he is incredible.  He accepted to be baptized the 14th of June.  So we'll see how it turns out.  I really have faith that he will.  He LOVED the plan of salvacion, and loved learning all those "new things".  He is progressing amazingly.  The Lord is truly blessing the people here in Fuenlabrada.  I feel so blessed to be able to be here.  

Family, I want your advice!  I want an email from each one of you this coming week.  It can be just 1 sentence thats fine.  But I need advice.  how can I forget myself, and come to love the Lord even more?

I love you all so much.  Thank you so much for your love and support.  I know my Savior lives.  I know he died for me.  And more than anything, I know that he is activley in each one of our lives.  He knows us.  He loves us.  And knows EXACTLY what He's doing.  I love Him with all my heart.  I have the strongest desires to truly come to know Him.  Thank you all for everything!

Jarrett Weekly Letter 5.25.2014

Dear family and friends

I want to start off with Machida Kun so you know how the lesson went this last Sunday and how he got depressed over coffee and tea. Well we got a email from him on Tuesday and he basically said he wants to stop meeting with us. And basically said that he can't get baptized because he can't stop drinking. We are like bro come on!! You  haven't even tried stopping!! So we emailed him back and said we would still love to meet and talk and just hang out and stuff like that. But no reply as of now. 

 

Because of him dropping our numbers this week have honestly been struggling! One night I just wanted to cry it was so hard. We were only able to teach two lessons this week and that is just terrible... It is hard... It isn't fun when you teach someone on the streets or in front of their house and then at the end they say they are not interested it is just heart breaking. I just want to see- these people come closer to our God our Loving Heavenly Father. Like it stinks not seeing success but the worse is seeing them not giving this gospel a try. It is the mission life, and that is why I am here. Because I know the Lord has prepared people for me to teach, and they need to hear the gospel from me. 

I have been able to get to know this guy in our ward Brother Baker. He is American. But he is the sickest guy ever. He is from St. George, and we were able to talk a lot this last Sunday. And we have a lot of the same interests. He lives here with his Japanese wife and has some really cute kids, he served in Tokyo on his mission. It is really nice getting to know the members, I finally had time to get to know some more of them today which was nice. I haven't been able to meet and talk with a lot of them because we have had Machida kun come every Sunday and we would basically teach him right after church. I really love this ward and this area, so I hope I stay here for awhile.

Elder Frampton 5/19

Dear Family and Friends,

It sounds like everyone is doing awesome! How are all of your testimonies doing? I would love to hear them. 

So this week was hard and crazy and all the good stuff from a mission. So we had the chance to go and help with baptisms for the dead this week. The ward doesn't have a whole lot of Melchizedek priesthood holders and so we went and helped with the temple work. I was a witness and that was the first time i had ever done that so it was pretty cool. I love the temple there is such a sweet spirit in there. We also meeting like everyday with the two boys who are getting baptized this weekend. Its been an adventure here trying to get everywhere on time and all the people rejecting our message ha ha just missionary work i guess. One day here was especially irritating. We are teaching and talking to a lot of people who are going to Bible School here. We find out that they have felt the spirit before in there life but they say that they aren't able to discern feelings because that doesn't speak of truth. In other words Satan is now attacking at people and how they view there very own feelings! Its so frustrating. But even through all of that it was a good week still. We got transfers just yesterday and  . . . . . I am leaving! ha ha. i am going to be Sweeping with an Elder Ebmeyer in Schadle park. Always moving and going on all types of adventures! 

But the whole mission is going through a lot of sweeps. So there were a ton of changes in the mission this transfer. And then this picture is us just messing around at the thrift store here. I love you all and pray for you every day.

Week 4 in ARG- Elder Gillett 5.19.14

Thanks for that email! It was really good to hear about stuff going on
outside where I am at again! I have been emailing shel a ton lately!
Make sure to let him know I miss him! Can´t wait to chill with him
again soon! And That´s so crazy about Andrew and Shelby! hahah I knew
the day was coming but never thought about it coming this fast!
hahahah i don´t know who the girl would have been! I will have to
start asking around about Javier! (Javier Morales who is on Real SL 
Soccer team is from Buenos Aires, Argentina) I would think somebody 
would know him because I think that place is in our mission! Thats 
exciting for Colton! He is a stud!

Nope not any service yet! We have been asking around trying to find
any opportunities but none have come up yet! Hopefully they will soon!
Companionship is going good! No problems there! Yeah we are going to
Quilmes with the whole zone(like 25 people) for an activity to watch a
disney movie, eat tacos, and play soccer at the chapel! hahaha i will
try to get some pictures but i won´t be able to send them until next
week... the computers we use here are ancient sometimes so it doesn´t
have a USB easily accesible!

Sooo this week went pretty good! First we taught Omar one of our
investigators who is a super cool guy and stuff but definitely
different! He believes in UFO´s and aliens and all that so he had a
really easy time with believing the Joesph Smith vision story but he
is having a hard time understanding how WE have the proper authority
to baptize and to act in the Lord´s name and stuff like that! So we
are trying to help him understand! He said he will think about baptism
but isn´t sure! Then we have Martha! She was doing really good until
this week we visited like 4 times and she was always cooking or doing
something or gone so out of the 4 times we didn´t teach her once!
Really crazy but then we went back there yesterday after saying
alright we are coming sunday at 5pm and be ready. We made sure she
didn´t having anything going on or anything.. And then we got there
and clapped and her son or someone like that came out and said that
she left back to Paraguay.... Really weird story but we don´t
know what really happened with her or what but she lives close to some
members and investigators so we will see if she did leave or not! haha
Now on a more positive note we met with our investigator Ruben! This
guy is a CAPO (stud) hahaha after everytime we teach him, he sets the
appointments with us! haha we don´t even have to ask him! He makes
sure we are coming again! super awesome! But he is trying to quit
smoking and drinking and this last time we went and visited he said he
went to the doctor for a liver or lung problem and the doctor told him
he needs to quit! (thank you doctor!!) haha so he quit smoking for a
whole day! but is smoking again... (its progress though) And we
haven´t even told him of the word of wisdom yet! Crazy how the Lord
works! We followed up and talked to him more about The restoration and
the gospel. We answered a bunch of questions and then we got him to
pray at the end of the lesson! And he also accepted a date for
baptism!!! There is a lot of things riding on whether he can get
baptized or not but at least we know he wants it! Super excited for
him and we know he can do it! He already has the desire to learn more
and to quit smoking and stuff so it is a little easier for us to help
him now! hahah anyways it has been an interesting week! I really
understand almost everything we talk about in spanish unless we start
talking about mermaids or something like one of our members did. Then
I just get really lost... hahha Argentina is so much fun though! Last
night was the finals of Argentina soccer league! River Plate beat
Quilmes 5-0 so that was pretty crazy and after the game we had to walk
home through the strip mall thing that everyone was driving through
cheering for River and celebrating in the streets. Shooting off
fireworks and guns and everything! It was pretty weird but super
awesome experience! hahahah I loved it too because people like soccer
here in Argentina! hahah anyways love you all! Until next week!

PS I remembered I had $60 in American dollars so I found out that the
family who let us skype at their house has a son on a mission in
Ecuador where they use American money or something so I traded that
money with her! So now I have like 600 pesos and we found some
Argentina jerseys for 120 pesos! Which is super cheap like 10 dollars
and I bought a jersey! I will make sure to send a picture next week!

Wow...... where to start this week.  I'll just start off by saying.... ELDER BOHNE IS THE MAN!!!! Man, I am so thankful for that guy.  He is such a stud.  He is an incredible missionary.  I learn so much from him every single day.  I've never seen a missionary with such strong desires to preach the gospel, and to do it with all the love in his heart.  Its truly incredible, he has such a love for these people in his heart.  I am learning so much from him every single day.  He is incredible.  Our first three days together were just an explosion!!  It was so awesome!  We had an incredible week, although we are having many struggles with investigators right now, we are still seeing so many miracles.  I am just as happy as ever right now!  Seriously I have never worked with so much unity and love.  I have grown so much in these 7 days I've been with Elder Bohne.  I know for a fact that I'm going to grow so much, and learn so much every single day.

So this week Elder Bohne and I have been findnig tons of new investigators.  And have lost quite a few as well.  Victor has kinda fallen away.... and same with Juanfran:(  He went on vacation for the weekend, and came back and just wasn't the same... made me super sad, but we'll see!  I'll keep you guys updated on him.  He is the man, and I really hope he continues to progress! We visited a less active member named Aldo, and we met him and his family.  He's the only member in the family.... but..... they aren't married..... and they don't get along.... like at all.  But there raising a family together, so they are just kinda dealing with each other for the family's sake.... but they are just incredible.  We have grown so close to them this past week.  And sunday they ended up coming to church!  It was great!  The counselor that was... uh dirigiendo (I dont remember the english word).... gave a public welcome to them at the pulpit, it was awesome and they loved it!  The branch here is doing great.  Still have tons of room to grow, but they have so much potential as a branch.  Something I just love are the hymns we sing.... #1 just imagine a bunch of spaniards singing..... #2 imagine spaniards singing without a pianist..... #3 imagine us all singing along to the hymn playing on the ipad hooked up to the sound system... I just die... .its the funniest thing ever.  And every single time without fail the counselor forgets the push pause when we finish the hymn, so the following him just blasts and totally just creates an uncomfortable situation all around. hahahahaha.  Its so great.  I love it so much.  

 We are only speaking spanish, and I dunno.... I have super strong desires to just speak spanish for the rest of the mission.  I love the language so much, and I need to get much better!  At least with elder bohne, were probably never going to speak another word in inglish again to each other! haha:)  But its been incredilbe.  Its amazing how much a united companionship that loves and trusts each other 100% invites the spirit to lessons.  We have had so many amazing experiences already, with some of the most powerful lessons I have ever been in.  Its so incredible, Im so thankful for that guy!

So funny story:  We went and visited a less active member named Angel.  Hes awesome, and his mom was there.  Shes really mentally sick, and just isnt really there.  She has had such a hard life.  Well when we were leaving she just all of a sudden throws her arms around my neck around pulls me in tight....... I froze...... I went stiff as a board.  hahahaha I seriosly didnt know what to do.  I couldnt move my body, its like I was in shock... hahahaha.  All I could manage to do was give her two little pats on the shoulder, smile and say thanks.  hahahaha.  And while this is going on, Elder Bohne is just there in the background dying of laughter.  hahahaha.  So funny.  Such a nice lady. 

Zone Conference is coming up this week on thursday!!!!!    Its gonna be so great, and I couldnt be more excited!  Everything is going amazing, and I couldnt be happier.  Its like Im on a vacation.  I'm with my best buddy 24/7, on the Lord's Errand.  Nothing better than that.  I love ya'll so much.   I love the people here so much.

*Joy is having some crazy doubts..... thinks we get iniciated into the FBI when we get baptized.  Thinks all missionaries recieve CTR rings so they are iniciated into the program...... hahaha so crazy.  She's going to get baptized.  I know it:)

Jarrett Weekly 5.18.2014

Not a lot went down this week to be honest just the normal missionary life, besides that fact that it was pouring raining really hard this week which wasn't too much fun to dendo in. 

We had a priesthood activity and we went bowling and  three of our investigators came which was way cool that was way fun, and then we had two of them came to sports night and played basketball with us. 

We also met with our investigator M. K. twice this week. We taught him all of lesson two and he understood all of it, which was really cool. And then today after he came to church today we taught him some of the commandments. We taught him about the word of wisdom and we totally freaked out which was really weird. He said he couldn't stop drinking coffee or tea; but like alcohol and smoking is not a problem (in japan a lot of people have a problem with alcohol and stuff like that). So that is that, and just he really had a hard time trying to process that, and he got really depressed for some reason. We emailed him tonight saying thank you and haven't heard anything back from him, which sucks. But then I just barely over heard my companion say that he probably wants to drop him. I am just sitting here writing this and thinking are you FREAKIN SERIOUS, you are giving up on someone that fast!! Sorry for the language but it is freakin true you can't just give up on someone that fast!! 

We also were able to play basketball again this week and we met a lot of Chinese people and just really wanting build relationships and then try and push the message. I love basketball dendo!

Week 3 in ARG- Elder Gillett 5.11.14

I just read Bambi´s email to me.... Holy Cow! Thats the craziest thing that happened all week! Perfect with the Skype thing! I am excited for talking to you guys tonight too! :) Love you all! And holy crap! I just read Bree´s email for this week as well! Sounds like tons of stuff happened outside of Argentina and nothing much happened with me here!

Thanks for the email mom! It was really good and its funny that is where I am in the Book of Mormon right now too! I read that this week! Thats so crazy for Andrew and Shelby! Time goes by fast! Both Brad and Bree having major changes like that was crazy to hear because this week felt pretty normal! I am so excited for Brad! That is seriously the coolest thing to hear and he will have a lot more fun and an easier time learning Spanish! And we will be able to use it more! But thats sad about Bree too! I´m sure she is really bummed to have to end her mission but it sounds like she had some life changing experiences this week! Which is awesome for her! The Lord only needed her to serve for a couple months it sounds like! 

So this week honestly really nothing happened! We kept working and its been raining a lot here but we haven´t had much success with anything! Our investigators never answered the door or anything but We did get one new investigator named Joel who was an old investigator! His wife was baptized in the church and then they moved in together a few years later and she has been inactive ever since but the lesson went really good with them! This week we focused on all the menos activo(inactive) members! and it was really good because we got a lot of them to come back but it seems like everybody here is sick right now! Including me, my comp, and now the two other elders we are living with are starting to get it! uh oh! But I was the first to get it and it only lasted about 3 days so I am pretty much all better now! Just a really week flu virus or something! But yeah anyways we got a lot of the menos activo miembros back to church but there is still a lot more work we can do to get everyone coming weekly! There is still tons of families here who are super close to getting baptized but first they have to be married and it is not common to be married here in Argentina! So people have a hard time getting up and doing it which doesn´t help because then the people don´t have covenants that they can follow to help lead them to God! So we are still trying to figure out a way to motivate people to be married and support their families!  

Went and bought a ton of food today so I am excited to have food again because it always gets to the end of the week and we don´t have a ton to eat sometimes! but its all good! PS I got your letter you sent on the 21st of March i think is when it was! I got it about last week on tuesday so it doesn´t take too long to get here it seems like! Probably 4 or 5 weeks! And here in a bit we might go get a haircut and then play soccer and basketball at the church! The new Elder Martinez we are living with now reminds me of Colton a ton! Acts exactly like him but he plays basketball and is from El Salvador! Super cool Elder! He only has 3 or 4 months left on the mission and he is a super good example so its been nice to be living with him! 

Todo bien conmigo ahora! (all good with me right now) only my nose is a little stuffy sometimes but feel completely fine! I wore the Suit rain coat that I have and that works really well but I will be looking around for a cheap jacket that I can buy for the rain that is a little smaller cuz that jacket is huge and I don´t like ponchos! Cuz i look like a goober! haha There is lots of stores that are kinda like market style but there is a bunch that are like kohlers or something but tons smaller! No walmarts or anything close! At least in this part! I talked to Elder Martinez though and he has a ton of jerseys of soccer and basketball from here and he is going to try and help me get some like them because they are the fake ones and are super cheap! Only like 200 pesos! I didn´t bring my camera with me today since it has been raining really hard but next week I will bag the camera and bring it so its doesn´t get wet! Elder James Bavela from California! Pretty cool kid too! We get along pretty well! Don´t know a ton about him but I don´t recognize him from the MTC!

So we went to a inactive members house yesterday and we watched the BOCA juniors game yesterday which is the favorite team in Argentina! Then I talked to their dad about the NFL and everything! We didn´t have a ton of time but he is also an investgator of the chruch that they haven´t visited in a long time but we are going back on thursday to talk to him more! :) so that is exciting! Now hopefully we can find somebody in the ward to click with him so he feels welcomed to the ward! There is another husband as well of a member who is really active! and he owns a car shop and a bunch of motorcycles! We had lunch with him the other week and he had never wanted to have lunch until I came here and I hadn´t even met him yet but we had lunch with him and so I tried to talk to him about motorcycles and stuff to be his friend so we will probably visit him again this week if he will take discussions or talk to us! 

No DI that i know of but everything is usually pretty cheap here! I´ll probably give all my shirts and stuff away when I leave and only come home with jerseys and soccer balls and stuff! :)  Yeah we probably won´t be able to go in the streets (World Cup) if Argentina wins because of the parties! But we might go and visit some members and "teach" them during the games if you know what I mean! hahaha Thats crazy! RSL is doing amazing!

And they all say that I look like Ronaldo in my soccer pictures with my hair in the feuhawk! hahaha
